This was a quick， engaging read。 The main character， Avery， was clearly drawn， and the author does a good job creating personalities for each of the brothers。 Even though the premise is far-fetched， I did find myself reading this in a couple of sittings， as I wanted to figure out why Avery was chosen。 The writing is engaging and kept my attention throughout。 The ending felt rushed in a way， perhaps because it sets up a sequel？

‘traps upon traps’ ‘riddles upon riddles’Oh。 My。 God。 This。 Story。 Was。 So。 Freaking。 Good。 What。 The。 Actual。 Hell。This story well deserves all 5 stars， no， it deserves more。 So much more。 I have come to a conclusion that I absolutely love mysteries。 I finished this book literally 5 seconds ago and WHERES THE SECOND BOOK BECAUSE THE CLIFFHANGER。 THE CLIFFHANGER。 Wow， I was NOT expecting that。 Honestly， this book made me feel stupid， I could not for the life of me solve the riddles。 I think I so ‘traps upon traps’ ‘riddles upon riddles’Oh。 My。 God。 This。 Story。 Was。 So。 Freaking。 Good。 What。 The。 Actual。 Hell。This story well deserves all 5 stars， no， it deserves more。 So much more。 I have come to a conclusion that I absolutely love mysteries。 I finished this book literally 5 seconds ago and WHERES THE SECOND BOOK BECAUSE THE CLIFFHANGER。 THE CLIFFHANGER。 Wow， I was NOT expecting that。 Honestly， this book made me feel stupid， I could not for the life of me solve the riddles。 I think I solved like one or two and the rest I was on the edge of my seat。 The amount of times I had to put this book down。 The amount of times this book had me gaping at my walls。 The amount of times I stayed up till 1 am in the morning just to read a little bit more。Can I just say that I LOVED everything about this book。 Four Hawthorne brothers。 Four。 Four hot Hawthorne brothers。 Four smart Hawthorne brothers。 Four funny Hawthorne brothers。 I absolutely loved them。Now I cant tell you that I loved every single character， because that would just be false。 Of course， this book had drama。 Lots of it。 AND I ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT STOP。 The question you have been all waiting for: Team Jameson or Grayson？ I have no idea， I couldn’t tell you even if I wanted to。 At first， I was team Jameson， but once Gray started to trust her。 。 。 I loved him as well。 And I thought I was team Gray for a while， but UGH I CANT DECIDE。I love all of the brothers。 I usually would have a favorite character after finishing a book but I love them all。Here are all: Avery， Max， Libby， Henry （ifykyk）， Nash， Xander， Gray， Jamie， and Oren。I have so much more to say about this book but I really don’t want to spoil it for anyone who may be reading this。 Please go pick this book up。 Yes there is romance， but it’s not the main thing。 I’m not a re-reader AT ALL， but I can tell that I will re-read this book because of how much I loved it。 God I’m still hung up on the ending WTF。 。。。more

Before I read this book I took a VERY long pause from reading; however， now that I have read it I can’t wait to read the sequel。 I COULD NOT PUT THIS BOOK DOWN！ Best plot ever。 Best characters ever。 So so so many foreshadowing moments that you just have to tab… plus other moments。 It’s almost like you are Avery， the main character， trying to solve all the puzzles and riddles。 In conclusion， GO READ THIS。 Also I’m team Jameson :）

The beginning was boring if you ask me and it was like that basically until she started to discover the houses secrets after that though it was great and I enjoyed the book a lot。 When we got to the climax it was hard to put the book down！

I'd describe this one as Knives Out （inheritance feuds） meets We Were Liars （rich teens' drama and secrets） meets The Mysterious Benedict Society （puzzles and mysterious challenges）。 Given that logline， I was very excited for it， but it was a little underwhelming。It was a pulpy fun YA easy read， but the puzzles were not really the type that you could solve as you read-- more the kind that they tell you the solution only when the hero finds the previously undescribed location or object that conta I'd describe this one as Knives Out （inheritance feuds） meets We Were Liars （rich teens' drama and secrets） meets The Mysterious Benedict Society （puzzles and mysterious challenges）。 Given that logline， I was very excited for it， but it was a little underwhelming。It was a pulpy fun YA easy read， but the puzzles were not really the type that you could solve as you read-- more the kind that they tell you the solution only when the hero finds the previously undescribed location or object that contains the answer。 The book also kind of talks down to the reader regarding the puzzles， maybe due to their expected audience age （they have to explain basic things like what different roman numerals are， to give you an idea）。 The teen drama was melodramatic for sure， but that wasn't really what I was looking for in this book-- in terms of the main character's drama （the unexpected poor person involved in the inheritance）， there were too many paragraphs that were devoted solely to protagonist-falls-for-every-handsome-rich-heir interior monologue that I never really got invested in， but the rich private school teens' drama was interesting enough and developed in twisty unexpected ways。 Oh， and the cliffhanger at the end was irritating-- the central mystery was only partially resolved and will be continued in the next volume！ It wasn't self contained which I feel like a mystery/puzzle-based book should be， since it's just unsatisfying to start the book thinking you'll find out what the answer is and then have it only give you part of the answer。I liked the fast pace， the eccentric mansion， and the concept， but the puzzles could have been punched up （to make it more the level of Mysterious Benedict Society or Winston Breen， both middle grade books that use interesting puzzles well without talking down to the reader） and the undeveloped romance could have been either developed better or toned down。 。。。more

I’m so sorry but this book disappointed me。 I was so excited to read it but once I started， it was so boring and since the chapters are so short I felt like I was jumping all over the place in the story。 The plot is so good and I really feel like if the chapters were just a little longer， I would’ve read it just fine。
